Five, across four types — two Superior Bush Suites, a Deluxe Bush Room, a Deluxe Garden Room and the Private Bush Cottage. It means most nights we are cooking for about ten people. That is deliberate.

Bed and breakfast. Every room has air conditioning, Wi-Fi, tea and coffee, and daily housekeeping. Dinner is R 550 per person, and game drives, spa treatments and days in Kruger are booked separately — the rates are on the experiences page.

Check-in is 14:00–19:00 Monday to Friday, and 14:00–17:00 on Saturday and Sunday. Check-out is by 10:00. Later arrivals are fine by prior arrangement — there is a R 150 late check-in fee — and late check-out is R 300 an hour if the room is free. Do tell us your arrival time, and bring ID or a passport, as everyone checks in personally.

Cancel 21 or more days before arrival and you are refunded in full. Between 7 and 20 days, half the total is refunded. Inside 7 days, or a no-show, is non-refundable. If something genuinely outside anyone’s control happens, we will offer alternative arrangements where we can.

A 50% deposit confirms the booking — until it reflects, the room is held provisionally. The balance is due no later than 14 days before you arrive. We take bank transfer or credit card, and rates are per room per night, the same whether one or two of you are staying.

Muunga is an adults-oriented lodge and we do not take children under 12. It is five rooms around one dinner table, and that is the stay we are set up for.

Yes. Game drives are R1 500 per person, guided bush walks R1 300, a Kruger half day R1 600 and a full day R2 600. Ask when you book or send a request from the experiences page, and we will hold the slot.

The estate is unfenced inside its perimeter and the plains game moves through it freely. Impala, warthog, nyala, kudu, giraffe, zebra, waterbuck and wildebeest are all resident, and you will see them from the lodge and on the roads — driving in at 40 km/h is often the game drive. Duiker and steenbok are here too if you look for them, and porcupine, civet, genet and mongoose come out at night. There is a great deal of birdlife.

We are not a Big Five reserve. For elephant, rhino, buffalo and lion you want a day in the Kruger, an hour away at Orpen Gate. Leopard do occasionally move through the estate, which is why we ask you not to walk the roads after dark.

Yes. Hoedspruit is in a malaria transmission area. The risk is seasonal: highest between September and May, at its peak in January and February, and lowest in the dry winter months of June to August.

Guidance on preventive tablets differs depending on where you are travelling from, and tablets have to be started before you arrive — some of them a week or more before. Please speak to your own doctor or a travel clinic before you travel. We are not medical practitioners and we will not advise you on medication.

Whatever you decide about tablets, avoiding bites is the first line of defence. Use repellent from dusk onwards and cover your arms and legs in the evening; the suites have screened windows. If you develop flu-like symptoms during your stay, or in the weeks after you get home, see a doctor and tell them you have been in a malaria area.

Yes. We pre-book transfers to and from Eastgate — send us your flight numbers when you book and we will arrange it. It is worth sorting before you fly rather than on arrival: you cannot count on finding a taxi or an e-hailing car at the airport, and the car hire desk in the terminal keeps short hours.
